Lot 2120 Sale 112 Ireland

Ireland, Hiberno-Norse issue penny, Phase III, c1035-1060, obv. crude bust to left, blundered legend, four pellets on neck, rev. long cross type similar to that of Aethelred II, with one crude hand and S in opposite angles and a pellet in each other corner, (S.6133, cf.SCBI BM 109). Extremely fine and very rare.

Ireland, Philip and Mary, (1554-1558), issued 1555, silver base shilling, (8.38g), obv. facing busts of Philip and Mary, crown above, legend ends ANGL, rev. crowned harp, crowned P and crowned M to either side, mm portcullis, (D&F.232; S.6500 [£1500 VF]). Nearly very fine and very rare in this condition, about as good as illustrated Spink example.
