Lot 2838 Sale 138 Ancient Gold - Greek

Lydia, Persian Imperial Coinage (c.350 B.C.), struck in period of Darius III or earlier, gold daric, (about 8.3 grams), obv. bearded archer or king running to the right with transverse spear over shoulder, and bow in right hand, rev. oblong punch, (S.4679, Carradice type IIIb, nos.30-31, Pl.XIII). Fine/very fine and scarce, the coin is housed in a double sided gilt velvet frame (263x205 mm) with gilt metal description and identification below coin, coin visible also from behind.

Lesbos, Mytilene, (c. 377-326 B.C.), electrum hekte or 1/6 stater (10mm, 2.54 g), obv laureate head of Apollo right, rev. head of Artemis right, hair in saccus; serpent behind; all within linear square. (S.4250 var., Bodenstedt Em. 100; Weber 5623, BMC 85, HGC 6, 1026). Good very fine, rare.

Lesbos, Mytilene, (c.412-378 B.C.), electrum hekte or sixth stater, Series 4, (2.62 grams), struck c.395-4 B.C., obv. Athena's head to right wearing crested helmet, rev. bearded male head of Pharnabazos, the Persian satrap, wearing Persian head-dress, within within incuse square, (S. 4251 ; Bodenstedt M.71, BMC 105, SNG Von Aulock 1708). Very fine, a coin of great historical importance.
