Trench art, cigarette lighter in brass with lift-off lid with Lebanese decoration on top, base missing; another lighter in brass with pull down handle, mounted on an oval brass base marked Ward & Sons 12; ashtray made from the base of 15MM M/18 1941 shell casing; holder made from a silvered 75MM M5AI Type 1 shell casing base, inside fitted with a decorated short rod. Trench art, an ashtray made from the base of an artillery shell, the base marked '25 Pr/II/Lot/2725.RLB/1941CF' and other markings, fitted on the edge of the ashtray are four cigarette holders in the shape of a heart, club, spade and diamond and in the centre of the ashtray is a machine bullet casing and cartridge and atop the cartridge is a bomber made from machine gun cases and cartridges, all sections have been chromed or silver plated, the main body of the bomber has been broken and crudely repaired and one propeller is missing; a brass model of a twin-engine bomber aircraft mounted on top of a long rod attached to a small circular tiered wooden base that is seated on another larger timber base with provision for two more rods to be fitted; a model fighter aircraft, missing both tail wings and propeller, fitted to a thin pole that is screwed to a tiered circular metal base, all parts except the pole are chromed. Poor - very fine. (3)

Trench art, World War I, copper bladed scimitar letter opener, at the handle end is a bullet and attached to the side of the bullet is an Imperial German Army Prussian crown uniform button and at the end is affixed a British General Service button, on one side of the blade is inscribed, 'Sergt. Adel', and on the opposite side is inscribed, '1919/Abbeville'. Fine.

Trench art, ceremonial gong crafted from base of a Japanese artillery shell (base diameter approx 17cm), with markings, F, 10, crossed cannons, S in triangle and Japanese characters, at the top there is a short chain added which attaches to a timber frame, together with a brass rod with a ball at the end for ringing the gong, the ball is felt covered, the brass rod also has a loop at one end for hanging on the back of the timber frame. Needs cleaning, otherwise fine. (3 parts)

Australia, WWII, trench art, 13th Light Horse Regiment V.M.R. hat badge (Cossum 1930-42, p8, d) in white metal sealed in an epoxy resin block in the colours of the unit colour patch, attached to a piece of timber attached at both ends to deactivated .303 cartridges and these fitted to a clear plastic base for display. Very fine.

Trench art, a large timber shield with a brass shield attachment decorated at the bottom with two bullet cartridges, down through the centre is a swivelling decorated brass rod curved at the top and with provision for attaching a hanging artillery shell casing by Berndorf 1912, also marked on base 21, and with a suspension loop attachment in the centre. Germany, Imperial naval sword, approximate overall length 93cm, decorated blade marked by maker on ricasso, 'W.K&C' (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie), blade length approx 77.5cm with single fuller, fold over brass guard with anchor and with fold over section to remove blade from scabbard, with lions head pommel with one red and one green gemstone for eyes, with ivory wire wrapped handle, leather scabbard with decorated brass fittings with two suspension rings. Very fine.

Research documents and photos, compiled over many years by military historian and antique dealer, the late Len Barton, a massive volume of documents, noted a very large amount relating to Australians in the Waikato War in New Zealand, also research on the area of Windsor in outer Sydney and its contribution to the military forces as well as numerous other military research papers and other research into non-military related items such as a large volume of typed papers relating to a commentary of Alexander Brodie Spark's surviving manuscript letter-books, diaries and other papers outlining the life and times of Spark who was born in Scotland in 1792 and died in Sydney in 1856 including his rise to riches and leadership in Sydney and his later downfall. In one very large 45 litre plastic container and one small box, fine - very fine. (lot)
