Sydney, promissory note, Blaxcell, G., two hundred and fifty pounds, handwritten, Sydney, March 20th 1812, payable to Captain Joseph James, on or before 24th June 1812. Accompanied by a printed form of a notice of protest printed by George Howe, Sydney, 1813, signed by Ellis Bent, Judge Advocate of the Territory of New South Wales, showing that Blaxcell had not paid by 16th August 1813. Stained left and right side, fine and extremely rare.

Van Diemen's Land, an extradordinary collection housed in original receipt book and stuck down on forty eight leaves (both sides), bills of exchange, drawn on the Commissariat Office Hobart on official forms for payment on the Treasury Chambers London, made out to various people for various sums, collection dates from 1823 to 1842. Includes bills of exchange on official forms from Commissariat Office these on forms by S. Clayton, many with signatures of William Sorell and George Arthur both Lieutenant-Governors of Van Diemen's Land, 1823 (2), 1824 (4), 1825 (8), 1828 (5), 1829 (10), 1830 (8), 1831 (2), 1832 (6), 1833 (7), 1834 (2), 1835 (3), 1836; Bills of Exchange drawn on Sydney 1830; hand written or partially printed sight notes (these on printed forms (by Bock, Hobart Town with a ship vignette) and others drawn on London forms (by J.Deacon, London), but most on Hobart printed or written forms), 1824 (2), 1825 (4), 1826 (5), 1827 (4), 1828 (2), 1829 (5), 1830 (11, one with John Hutchinson's signature for £30 to John Dunn on behalf of the Wesleyan Missionary Society, 77 Halton Garden, London see Lot ), 1831 (6), 1832 (11), 1833 (4), 1834 (2), 1835 (3), 1836 (1), 1837 (5), 1838 (2), 1839 (6), 1840 (6), 1841 (5), 1842 (20); printed fixed £100 sight notes 1826 (4) (these signed and approved by Sir George Arthur, Lt. Governor), 1827 (7, George Boyes Auditor of civil accounts) 1828 (4), similar with same approval with values written on printed forms £100, £150, £200, £500, £1600, dated 1826 (9, Arthur as above), 1827 (11, Boyes as above), 1828 (11), 1829 (5); cheques to individuals from John Butler 1827, The Bank of Australasia Sight note 1841, 1842. All stuck down on leaves, otherwise fine and all very rare as individual documents. (217)

Bank of Van Diemen's Land, a contemporary marble board volume housing printed cheque forms with original cheque butts drawn on the bank to various payees on the account of Y.O.S., drawn and signed by Gamaliel Butler, all were issued in 1830, cheques commence with No.10 (5th May 1830) going through to No.100; a second series runs from No.1 to No.71 (the last cheque is dated 18th Dec. 1830) (155), (some numbers are missing) together with various letter numbered issues A, B(2), O, Q, S, T, U, V, W, X and Y all issued mostly in May 1830 (13) others un-numbered issued in late 1830 (12). Mostly fine or better. (180)

Commercial Bank, a large contemporary marble board volume housing printed cheque forms with original cheque butts drawn on the Commercial Bank to various payees drawn and signed by Gamaliel Butler, all were issued from 1845-1848, cheques commence with No.1v (2nd Jan 1845) going through to No.392v, another group of cheques drawn on the Commercial Bank (79, generally in poor condition) and other cheques (17).
