Commercial Bank, a large contemporary marble board volume housing printed cheque forms with original cheque butts drawn on the Commercial Bank to various payees drawn and signed by Gamaliel Butler, all were issued from 1845-1848, cheques commence with No.1v (2nd Jan 1845) going through to No.392v, another group of cheques drawn on the Commercial Bank (79, generally in poor condition) and other cheques (17). Mostly fine or better unless stated. (488)
Gamaliel Butler details above. He also became associated with the Commercial Bank. G.T.W.B. Boyes dubbed him 'one of the richest lawyers and greatest rogues in the country'. He died on February 2, 1852 aged 68. The famous Tasmanian convict artist T.G. Wainewright painted three of Butler's daughters.
