The National Bank of Australasia, Melbourne, Victoria, uniface one pound front and back, not dated, but c.1895, not numbered, specimen note, unsigned, perforated 'SPECIMEN' twice, overprinted in red 'SPECIMEN', on paper, imprint of Bradbury Wilkinson & Co Engravers & c. London', vignettes to left of woman as a personification of Victoria, and '1 POUND' in oval frame on right, ornamental round tablet with '1' in corners and 'L ONE' in frame lower left, all within rectangular ornate geometric border, 'MELBOURNE' above and 'VICTORIA' below, states below, 'On Demand I promise to pay to the Bearer ONE POUND Sterling at Melbourne, For The National Bank of Australasia', yellow and red 'ONE' across note, rainbow back with '1' in centre, bank name around with profile facing helmeted head of Grecian women on either side, '1' in corners, perforated 'SPECIMEN'and overprinted in red 'SPECIMEN' below, rectangular block over the whole back, front note green, orange and black on white, back note green and orange on white (Vort-Ronald, Type four 1(M), comments on bank and type p.175-185, similar note issued illustrated Fig.188 [p.179]). Stuck down and mounted on a thick white card base edged in gold, framed and glazed. Extremely fine and extremely rare. (2)

Another but with open value tablet on blue on white form with imprint S.T. Leigh & Co Sydney. Issued December 5th 1870 No 23, for £2- 14- 10 1/2 (see Nicholson sale, lot 1639). Both cross cancelled in ink and rubber stamped at the CBC Inverell. Ragged on corners, otherwise good fine and very rare. (2)

A completely unknown issue previously and while only fair an interesting and unique note.

The River Don Trading Company, River Don, Tasmania, issued at River Don, twenty two shillings and sixpence, currency note, dated 24th Oct 1889 (18 printed), No.4035C, no watermark, circular value tablets in upper corners, vignette of industrial and farming scene, no imprint but a product of C.Troedel & Co. Melb, stating on front 'On Demand please pay Bearer the sum of Twenty Two Shillings & Six Pence Stg. Manager Bank of Van Diemen's Land, Shaw, Secretary and John Henry, Manager impressed with Tasmania duty stamp for one penny, and stamped with oval bank stamp of the Commercial Bank of Tasmania, Launceston, red on white, stamped on back B/0122/11-10-88 red on white, also blue pencil mark. Pinhole, creases, some foxing around edges, otherwise nearly fine and very rare, especially in this condition.
