Powell Acct., printed on uncertain watermarked paper, with imprint on lower left, 'Bradbury Wilkinson Co, Engravers & c. London', with vignettes of female with children in centre, and in oval top left the bank seal, and top right 1 over POUND, with CANCELLED perforated across the note, centre block in green for ONE POUND, green and black on white, (Vort-Ronald, p.52-56 on bank, type 2a, cf. Fig.52). Folds and creases, a few crease holes, with heavy aging tone, otherwise nearly fine, very rare and one of the earliest known notes of this bank.

Sabine, on paper, probably watermarked but uncertain type, imprint of 'Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co Ld Engravers, London', vignette in centre of woman facing wearing wreath, and ornamental shield tablets with '1' in top corners, and 'ONE' in block lower corners, all within rectangular ornate border, states below, 'I Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand at our Office here the Sum of One Pound Sterling Value received, Adelaide 1st March 1907, for The Bank of Adelaide', 'ONE' in yellow across note, back with bank building in centre, '1' in corners, legend above and below 'THE BANK OF ADELAIDE' and 'ONE POUND', yellow and black on white/blue brown and green on white, (Vort-Ronald, Type three, comments on bank and type p.52-56, similar issued note with 'Cancelled' perforations, illustrated Fig. 53 [p.56]). Gardiner, hand signed by uncertain Directors maybe Thomas Ryan (?) and another, and entered by G.E. Strafford, printed on unwatermarked paper, with trace of imprint on centre of bottom frame, appears to be 'Perkins & Heath, London', vignette of three women top centre, a sheep, top left and a One in wreath top right all within rectangular spiral border, on back in black ink, two signatures, black on white, (Vort-Ronald Type Two, p.65 This Note described; Nicholson p.4, This Note illustrated). Repaired on lower frame area, and right side, normal aging tone and minor ink smudges, otherwise very good, and believed unique.

Bank of Australasia, type without city name, one pound altered to five pounds, date not discernable, (18 printed) but an issue of period 1850-1860, No. 64198, hand signed by uncertain Manager and not entered, note altered from one pound to five pounds by removing ONE in oval either side of vignette and replacing with hand drawn Ã…â€Å‣5 and a FIVE replacing ONE in lower ornamental frame, printed on unwatermarked paper (?), with imprint on centre of bottom frame, 'Perkins Bacon & Co, London Patent Hardened Steel Plate' vignette of Royal Arms in centre, all within rectangular spiral border, on back Bank of Australasia arms, black/green on white, (Vort-Ronald Type One (b) but printed in colour on back (p.60), and compare illustrations fig.56 and 57, also for specimen proof of Ã…â€Å‣5 note copied see Spink sale Perkins Bacon Archive lot 160 illustrated but this with FIVE in oval and lot 152 for Ã…â€Å‣5 in caligraphy). Bank of Australasia, Geelong written in replacing Adelaide, one pound altered to ten pounds, 2 Aug, 1852, (18 printed), No. 64918, hand signed by uncertain Manager and clerk as entered, note altered from one pound to ten pounds by carefully inking in TEN on the ONE in each of the ovals and block, and replacing with hand drawn TEN POUNDS for ONE POUND in text, printed on unwatermarked paper (?), with imprint on centre of bottom frame, 'Perkins Bacon & Petch, London Patent Hardened Steel Plate' vignette of Royal Arms in centre, all within rectangular spiral border with ADELAIDE on three sides, rubber stamped, 'ISSUED & PAYABLE AT GEELONG' at top and additional stamp in text 'HERE OR AT MELBOURNE' black on white, on back two signatures with one signed Joseph Hill, (Vort-Ronald Type One (b) (p.60), and one pound illustrated fig. 56, type for Adelaide not in Spink sale Perkins Bacon Archive, but compare the illustrations of specimen proofs for other cities). Potts, printed on watermarked paper 'BANK OF NEW SOUTH WALES' within saw toothed multiple line frame, with imprint in centre of bottom, 'Charles Skipper & East, London', with vignettes of female seated with produce and in top corners oval framed tablet with FIVE, all within rectangular ornate spiral border with NEW SOUTH WALES in frame, back with large 5 within oval surrounded by a ornate circles in each corner, blue on white, (New England Hoard No. 75 [Report of ANS 1974 yearbook, pp.49-68], Vort-Ronald, p.67-85 on bank, and similar note illustrated as Fig.78, Tomlinson p.24 illustrates five pound note of type). Folds and creases, with some aging tone, some blue colouration on back at right, otherwise nearly very fine and rare.
