Description

The Bank of Australasia, Perth, Western Australia, one pound, uniface, dated 1 June 1894, (date fully printed), numbered No28,745, signed W.Richardson and countersigned by uncertain signature, on paper, watermarked 'BANK OF AUSTRALASIA' and with three lined frame around, imprint of 'Perkins Bacon & Co. Ld London', vignette on left of bank arms, in centre female figures portraying commerce and prosperity as a farming and mining scene, and ornamental oval tablet with 'ONE' on upper right and 'ONE' in multi circle tablet lower left, all within rectangular ornate spiral border inscribed 'WESTERN AUSTRALIA' on three sides, states below, 'I Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand One Pound at Perth. For the Bank of Australasia', with green ONE across centre within three geometric circles, green and black on white, (Vort-Ronald, Type two (c), comments on bank and type p.57-63, similar issued note illustrated Fig. 59 [p.61]). A few folds and creases, otherwise extremely fine and very rare, making it one of the finest pre-federation notes available to collectors.

An excellant example from a rare issuing centre, Perth. The watermark is very distinctive and the paper hard and translucent, making it a difficult banknote to forge.
