Description
The Bank of Australasia, Sydney, New South Wales, one pound, uniface, dated 1 Jany 1908, (date fully printed), numbered S91,414, signed A.Pollard for Manager and countersigned by uncertain signature, on paper, watermarked 'BANK OF AUSTRALASIA' and with three lined frame around, imprint of 'Perkins Bacon & Co. Ld London', vignette on left of bank arms, in centre female figures portraying commerce and prosperity as a farming and mining scene, and ornamental oval tablet with 'ONE' on upper right and 'ONE' in multi circle tablet lower left, all within rectangular ornate spiral border with 'I' in circles in each corner, and inscribed 'NEW SOUTH WALES' on three sides, states below, 'I Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand One Pound at Sydney. For the Bank of Australasia', with green ONE across centre within three geometric circles, green and black on white, (Vort-Ronald, Type two (c), comments on bank and type p.57-63, similar issued note illustrated Fig. 59 [p.61], this number unlisted in Vort-Ronald). Folds and creases, minor pin-holes, soiled on front and back, otherwise very fine and rare.
An example from the rarer post-Federation period from the main issuing centre, Sydney. The watermark is very distinctive but very faint on this note.
