World War II, a selection of photographs and an allied coloured cartoon page with six separate sections all relating to the 1939-45 war in the Pacific against the Japanese, this page used as an air-drop propaganda leaflet in New Guinea in 1943 and with all text in Japanese suggesting to the Japanese forces that they face humiliation, disease, death by drowning or bombardment and it implies that no good reason exists for a continuation of the war, and as well as the cartoon sheet there are photographs that show a Japanese officer being dragged from a culvert on Leyte Island, three photos show General Hatazo Adachi and other officers surrendering at Wewak, PNG, another photo shows Japanese in the act of surrendering being watched over by armed allied soldiers and another photo with descriptive text on the back shows the aftermath of a US Marine force battle with the Japanese in the Gilbert Islands with bodies strewn along the beach at Tarawa in November 1943 (5,700 Japanese soldiers were killed). Folds and foxing on the cartoon sheet, overall very good - fine, an interesting lot. (8 items)
