Gnr/Major W.H. Perry 6 F.A.B. A.I.F./2nd A.I.F. E.D. Engraved others impressed. Mounted for wear. Very fine. $ William Henry Perry served as Harry Perry during the First World War. Enlisting in the militia he was commissioned in 1929, and assumed command of 'B' Company 2/23rd Bn in August 1940. Serving in the Middle East he was captured at Tobruk on 19 May 1941. He was imprisoned at Campo 29 at Rezzanello and Campo 19 at Sulmonia. He escaped from this camp but was recapture by the Germans and was sent to Oflag 12B at Hadamar in December 1943. Released in a P.O.W. exchange in Sept 1944 he was returned to Australia in May 1945. He died on 3 May 1958 at Melbourne. Together with: research on military career and copy of officer's record of service; set of miniature medals, copy of Mysore 1790 medal; guide book to Palestine; phrase book; map case; double pack of playing cards (received as P.O.W.); handmade set of dominoes; hip flask, ship's menu; water colour paint box; newspaper clippings; illustrated prison journal with an account of his capture; large quantity of photographs of recipient; his parents and others relating to his war service and as P.O.W; sketch book and paintings (a highly skilled artist Major Perry made these water colours and pen and ink drawings whilst a P.O.W.)

He departed Australia on 30 Sept 1914 and returned on 26 June 1919.

Fay McLennan) in uniform as member of the A.A.N.S, her service and medical records and demob procedure book.

He was in charge of 'B' boiler room and repair parties during the actio off Cape Spada on 19 July 1940. He was particularly noteworthy in the performance of his duty during the action.' Together with: three M.I.D. emblems; HMAS Sydney/Bartolomeo Colleoni Medallion in case of issue named engraved 'A.W.Homer, CH.STO. Trio: 1939-45 Star; Aircrew Europe Star; British War Medal 1939-45; 40766 R.B. Cowper DFC. First two late issue machine engaved. Last, hand engraved. Very fine. $ F/O Robert Barson Cowper 108 Sqdn/455 Sqdn. DFC L.G. 31 August 1943: 'This officer has completed 60 sorties and has displayed great courage and determination. During a sortie in January 1943, he was compelled to make a forced landing behind the enemy's lines, but he displayed great resource in outwitting the enemy and regained our own lines on foot. One night in July 1943, he engaged a Junkers 88 and caused it to explode. The enemy aircraft disintergrated and a large portion of it struck and so disabled F/O Cowper's aircraft that he was forced to leave it by parachute. He was later rescued from the sea and rejoined his squadron. He has since destroyed another Junkers 88.' Bar to DFC: L.G. 13 February 1945. 'This officer has completed a second tour of operational duty and has consistently displayed a high degree of skill and co-operation. His keenness to engage the enemy has always been evident and he and Flt Lieut W. Watson has been responsible for the destruction of five histile aircraft.' Together with named medal slip.

Second Lieut Frederick Harold Mintroom NZMGC. M.C. and last two medals unnamed others impressed. Court mounted for display. Very fine. $ Together with extract from official history describing the award of the military medal, brief service details showing promotion to Major in 1940. A rare group only thirteen MC/MM combinations to New Zealanders during the first World War. M.C.L.G. 2 April 1919: 'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative east of Le Quesnoy on 4 November 1918. He commanded a section of machine guns attached to an assaulting battalion of infantry and led forward two guns with the leading waves of the right leading company in the attack. By engaging strong enemy opposition he assisted the advance of infantry and he took up a well chosen position on the objective gained.' M.M. L.G. 14 December 1917.

Broun 35th Regt/Capt 1st Waikato Regt. First medal impressed, second medal engraved, renamed. Generally very fine. $ Together with: Bestowal certificate for French award (19 May 1917); photograph of recipient in uniform wearing awards, detailed obituary, extracts from Who's Who in New Zealand; Dictionary of Biography; The Cyclopedia of New Zealand (includes phtograph of recipient) copy of letters relating to French award (which was awarded for assistance to French nationals in INdia during the mutiny sixty years previously); Biography from: The Collector', copy of late application for the New Zealand War Medal and accompanying statement. Broun, Thomas (1838-1919) was born and educated in Edinburgh and served in the Crimean War. He had a commission in the 35th Regiement in the Indian Mutiny after which he was invalided with cholera and retired (1862). Having married he came to New Zealand and in the Waikato War held a commission in the 1st Waikato Regiment. (Major N.Z.M. 1905). After the War he farmed at Opotiki for a few years, was teacher under the Auckland Education Board (1876-88). Boun was Governemnt Entomologist (1894-1905). For many years after 1866 he studied New Zealand insects and hge described about 2,000 species in his manual of New Zealand Coleoptera, and in British scientific publications. Broun was first drawn towards the study of entomology by observing in Burma. He died on 24 August 1919.
