Macedon, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.574 grams), Lampsacus mint, issued 328-323 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, two horse foreparts cojoined (one horse only visible) in left field, D over [O] monogram under wing, around to right **ALEXANDR[OU], (cf.S.6702; Price 1358, M.395, BMC 1358a-e). Minor edge knock, otherwise extremely fine with traces of mint bloom.

Thrace, Kingdom of, Lysimachos, (323-281 B.C.), gold stater, (8.22 grams), Tomis mint, posthumous issue c.88-86 B.C., obv. diademed head of Alexander the Great to right, wearing horn of Ammon, rev. Athena enthroned to left, holding Nike and resting left arm on shield, transverse spear resting against right side to right, to right **BASILEWS, to left **LUSIMAC[OU], monogram **DH U* below arm, TO on throne, trident below in exergue, (cf.S.6813, AMNG 2477, cf.SNG Cop.1090, De Callatay p.141, Pl.XXXVII, Obv. dies D1/R-). Extremely fine, well centred on the obverse and virtually as struck.

Lesbos, Mytilene, c.430 B.C., electrum hekte (2.46 grams), Bodenstedt dates 454-428/7 B.C., obv. head of Aktaion with stag's ear and small horn to right, his hair falling on his shoulders in coarse locks, rev. Gorgon head facing within linear square, (cf.S.4246 [£850]; Bodenstedt 54 [same dies as obv. f/ rev. n], [dies illustrated enlarged Pl.22, 2]; SNG Von Aulock 7735, SNG Lockett 2760, SNG Fitz. 4348). Worn but of the finest early Classical style, fine and very rare.
