Scrimshaw turtle shell, 420x380mms with several scenes commemorating the voyage of the HMS 'Challenger' a voyage around the world from 1872-1876 with scenes of Cape Colony 1873; Dobba Aru Island; The Magellan Straits 1876; Australian Natives Queensland N.S.W.; Yokohama 1875; Tahiti; New Guinea; Challenger moored at St. Pauls rock in the S. Atlantic Aug 29 1873; HMS Challenger, a title area, a compass etc., and a portrait of the Captain George Nares. Each scene placed in balance around and down the centre of the turtle shell. Fine and unique.
