The Royal Bank of Australia, one pound, Hobart Town, not dated (18 printed), proof, not signed, printed on unwatermarked paper, with imprint on centre of bottom 'Perkins Bacon & Petch London, Patent Hardened Steel Plate', with vignette of modified Royal Arms with supporters and St Andrew, value within oval left and right and in decorative floral border to left, all within rectangular spiral border, states on front of note 'Promise to pay the Bearer on demand at Hobart Town ONE POUND sterling', black on white (MVR p.210-12 on bank, one pound note illustrated as Fig 218 on p.210). Folds and creases, a little aging tone, otherwise very fine and very rare, especially for this city.

The Union Bank of Australia Limited, Launceston, five pounds, proof, dated 1 Feby 1892 (date printed in full), and pencil date below Decr 1 1891, not numbered, on paper with nearly two cms removed from base of note, imprint of 'Perkins Bacon & Co. Ld. London Patent Hardened Steel Plate', vignette of Britannia and colonial wharf scene, with ships between in background, Queen Victoria in upper left vignette and sovereign reverse lower right as vignette, all within scroll border which includes 'LAUNCESTON' at the sides, states 'We Promise to pay the Bearer here on Demand FIVE POUNDS Sterling, Launceston 1st Feby 1892, For the Directors & Company', black on white, (Vort-Ronald, Type two (b), cf.Fig.229 currency, [p.225], further comments p.223-8). Minor gum adhesions on back in two corners, lower 2cm removed across the base, otherwise good very fine and rare.

The rate of interest was set at 5% per annum, and the full sum of $500 to be redeemed on February 1, 1957. As issued with immense historical value, extremely fine and believed to be unique.
