The lid has a stepped design and is stamped with the royal arms in gold leaf. Rectangular shaped case fitted with a brass push-button lock at the front. Inside comprises blue velvet roundels in a 4-4-3- pattern with white silk lining to the lid. Extremely fine.

1887 Short Proof Set Case - Silver coins only, Victoria, 1837-1901. S-PS6 Crown to Threepence (7 coins) Contemporary shagreen style brown leather covered timber presentation case. The lid is plain except for a decorative gold line border. Square case fitted brass push-button lock at the front. The Interior has six blue velvet roundels surrounding a central one for the crown. Fitted with blue ribbon lifters and a plain white silk lining to the lid. Mintage 287 sets issued. Good very fine and scarce.

Rectangular shaped case fitted bronze clasps stamped with imperial crown centred with SPECIMEN COINS above and 1887 below. The Interior has blue velvet roundels in a 3-4 pattern fitted with dark blue ribbon lifters and a plain white silk lining to the lid. Extremely fine.

S-3943, ESC-3551, Davies-1470 (C) Plain edge. Obverse -Jubilee bust. Reverse - Updated version of Merlen's oak leaf surrounding crowned value design introduced in 1822. Designed and engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon, it is still used today. The Imperial crown has replaced the St Edwards crown and the Arabic numeral 2 replaced with a more squared version Four coins -4d 1.90g, 3d 1.42g, 2d 0.93g and 1d 0.46g. The case is slightly smaller than the 1887 version in accord with the absence of a double florin. It shares the same 1887 stepped lid design and is stamped with the royal arms in gold leaf. The lid has an incuse perimeter line in the leather at the top of the step with a similar line, but this time in gold at its base. The rectangular-shaped case is fitted with a brass push-button lock at the front. Inside comprises dark blue velvet roundels in a 4-3-3 pattern with white silk lining to the lid. Mintage approximately 650 sets struck. The set is entirely original, with the gold displaying matching wispy film derived from long time storage in the case. The silver coins exhibit matching multicoloured rainbow tones. Good very fine.
