1887 Proof Double Florin (Four Shillings) - Rare Top of Crown to Gap variety, Victoria, 1837-1901. 1887, S-3922, ESC-2696, L&S 97, Davies 540 (R). Encapsulated by PCGS as PR66 CAM. Obverse - Joachim E. Boehm's Jubilee bust with small crown and veil, J.E.B. on truncation. Rare obverse variety where the cross on top of the crown points to a gap in the rim denticles. Reverse - Roman I in date; Crowned cruciform shields Garter star in the centre four sceptres featuring symbols for the three kingdoms, i.e. England (sceptre with a cross), Ireland (harp) and Scotland (thistle). Attractive grey brown toning, brilliant FDC and rare.
