Description

1893 Long Proof Set - Gold and Silver coins, Victoria, 1837-1901. S-PS7, Five Sovereigns to Threepence (10 coins). Official dark red shagreen style leather covered timber presentation case. The case is slightly smaller than the 1887 version in accord with the absence of a double florin. It shares the same 1887 stepped lid design and is stamped with the royal arms in gold leaf. The lid has an incuse perimeter line in the leather at the top of the step with a similar line, but this time in gold at its base. The rectangular-shaped case is fitted with a brass push-button lock at the front. Inside comprises dark blue velvet roundels in a 4-3-3 pattern with white silk lining to the lid. Mintage approximately 650 sets struck. The set is entirely original, with the gold displaying matching wispy film derived from long time storage in the case. The silver coins exhibit matching multicoloured rainbow tones. Good very fine.
