Slightly concave, dark brilliant blue toning, brilliant FDC and scarce.

1888 Regular Maundy Set with case - 1st year with Jubilee bust, This set was included in the collection as it represents the first year of new designs for the Maundy series, Victoria, 1837-1901. S-3943, ESC-3551, Davies-1470 (C) Plain edge. Obverse -Jubilee bust. Reverse - Updated version of Merlen's oak leaf surrounding crowned value design introduced in 1822. Designed and engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon, it is still used today. The Imperial crown has replaced the St Edwards crown and the Arabic numeral 2 replaced with a more squared version Four coins -4d 1.90g, 3d 1.42g, 2d 0.93g and 1d 0.46g. 1893 Long Proof Set - Gold and Silver coins, Victoria, 1837-1901. S-PS7, Five Sovereigns to Threepence (10 coins). Official dark red shagreen style leather covered timber presentation case. The case is slightly smaller than the 1887 version in accord with the absence of a double florin. It shares the same 1887 stepped lid design and is stamped with the royal arms in gold leaf. The lid has an incuse perimeter line in the leather at the top of the step with a similar line, but this time in gold at its base. The rectangular-shaped case is fitted with a brass push-button lock at the front. Inside comprises dark blue velvet roundels in a 4-3-3 pattern with white silk lining to the lid. Mintage approximately 650 sets struck. The set is entirely original, with the gold displaying matching wispy film derived from long time storage in the case. The silver coins exhibit matching multicoloured rainbow tones. Good very fine.

Reverse - A crowned spade-shaped Royal shield of Arms with Order of the Garter suspending a miniature St George and the Dragon pendant. The ribboned shield partly obscures the Collar of the Order of the Garter, whose design is taken from the 1887 half-crown. Outside this is a decorative beaded circle above which is the legend . FID . DEF . IND . IMP . The base reads HALF 18 (pendant) 93 CROWN. Attractive iridescent brilliance, FDC and scarce.
