Sicily, Syracuse, (405-400 B.C.), gold octobol (100 silver litrai or two decadrachms), (5.800 grams), by Kimon, obv. head of Artemis-Arethusa to left, wearing spendone ornamented with stars, to left **SURAKOSION*, K(reversed)A to right behind, rev. Herakles naked kneeling to right, strangling the Nemean lion with both arms, (S.950; SNG ANS 331 [same dies], Berend 26 ["Le Monnayage d'or de Syracuse sous Denys I, 8th Congress papers in Naples). Slightly double struck on the reverse, otherwise extremely fine or better, well centred and very rare.

Thrace - Tauric Chersonesus, Panticapaeum, (c.320 B.C.), gold stater, (9.10 grams), obv. head of bearded Silenus to left, with animal ear, wearing ivy wreath, rev. horned griffin with curved wings standing to left on an ear of corn, right foreleg raised, head facing, holding spear in jaws **P A N* around, (S.1693, SNG BM 867, Traite pl.353, 20; Kraay - Hirmer Pl.142, 440, Anokhin 109 Pl.3). A spectacular coin with minor surface scratches, well centred, otherwise extremely fine and very rare.

Athena enthroned to left, holding Nike and resting left arm on shield, transverse spear resting against right side to right, to right **BASILEWS, to left **LUSIMACOU, **DI below arm, **IS on throne, trident below in exergue, (cf.S.6813, M.285, SNG Cop.1094). Better than usual style, extremely fine and virtually as struck.

D165/rev.R280]). Good extremely fine, superb with some mint bloom, lustrous and as struck, well centered, about the finest auctioned by this firm, and very rare.

Good extremely fine, well centred, with full mint bloom, a very rare variety.
