Sextant. H. Hughes Bros. London 20cm (8 ins) radius brass sextant with silver scale and vernier, two sets of coloured filters and single telescope in fitted cedar case with accessories and spare mirror. The case lid is inset with a brass tally plate with 'Imperial Chinese Navy PEI Yang Squadron'. Engraved thereon. Very fine. $ This sextant was prewsented by the British Admiralty to the Imperial Chinese Navy in the latter half of the nineteenth century as an inducement to purchase British constructed naval vessels during their modernisation programme.
