I C X C each side of Christ, dotted border within circles, rev. around traces of MANOVH**L* EN XPICTW TW **Q*W **P*ICTOC around the bust of Manuel facing, nimbate, a pellet in the left and right fields, (S.2552, PCPC 343.5, DOC 1483, LPC 2 [p.160] variant). Crudely struck as usual on a square flan, otherwise very fine.

John VIII Palaeologus, (1423-1448), silver stavraton (half hyperpyron), Constantinople mint, (6.68 grams), obv. IC-XC Nimbate bust of Christ, book of Gospels in left hand, right hand raised in benediction, all inside dotted and lined circle, surrounded by margin with pellets, inside solid line circle, rev. traces of IWANHC **D*EC**P*OTIC O **PALEOLOG*OC / **Q*V XAPITI AVTOKPATOP in two circles inside which bust of John facing, bearded, nimbate, crown with pendila, a pellet in the left and right fields, (S,2564, LPC 1 [p.172]). Weak in places, otherwise nearly very fine.
