Sicily, Syracuse, Hieron II, (275-215 B.C.), gold drachm or hundred litrai (4.25 gm), struck circa 275-263 B.C., obv. head of Persephone left with long flowing hair, wearing wreath of grain ears, single-pendant earring, and necklace, wing behind, rev. charioteer, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left, driving fast biga left, A below horses, **IERWNO‰ in exergue. (cf.S.983, BMC 512). Double struck on the reverse, otherwise extremely fine and rare.

Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, in left field a buckle, and lower left **LW* monogram, to right **ALEXANDPOU*, (cf.S.6702; Price 1374 (p.214), BMC 1374a-b, M.621, ANS has an example). Ex jewellery with some smoothing and filling, otherwise extremely fine, well centred, with traces of mint bloom, a scarce variety.
