Ottoman Empire, early 19th century, yataghan sword with 66cm blade in Damascus steel and with maker's mark and flat back edge, the handle is bone with flared ears and around the centre and overlaying onto the blade for a distance of 10cm is an elaborately carved, raised silver decoration, the scabbard of velvet with a gold bullion stripe down one side also has an elaborately carved silver locket (12cm) and chape (16cm), the top decorative locket section has a loop for attaching to a sword belt, total length including scabbard 82cm. Very fine.

Ottoman Empire, early 19th century, kard knife with 23cm wootz (Damascus, watered) steel blade of good contrast pattern, with light green jade handle with gilded silver bolster and red stone bezel set at the pommel, an original scabbard in red cloth, this faded, with finely gilded silver locket and chape, total length including scabbard 38.5cm. Very fine.

Ottoman Empire, early to mid 19th century, bichaq dagger shaped like a miniature yataghan, single edge blade is 18cm long, forged from pattern welded steel, the handle and scabbard are covered with silver ornately decorated with a floral pattern, the handle pommel is splayed and has a flap on top for attaching to a chain and the scabbard has an identical flap on its front edge, at the bottom tip of the scabbard is a fish head, total length including scabbard 35.5cm. Blade a little loose in scabbard, otherwise fine.

Ottoman Empire, c1840, shamshir style sword presented to Admiral Sir Charles Napier by the Sultan of Turkey, Abdulmejid I, in recognition of his services in the Second Turko-Egyptian War (1839-41), referred to as the Syrian Campaign because most of the fighting was in Syria, the sword hilt has a mameluke sword type grip of brown polished bone and a pistol butt-shaped pommel, the gilt back-piece is decorated with leaves sandwiched between the bone pieces back and front, there is a hole in the pommel for a sword-knot and a gilt chain is attached to the ring set into the tip of the pommel and the curved quillons on the gilt cross-guard, on the obverse of this is a large diamond inset in the centre surrounded by sixteen smaller diamonds and from these, sixteen rows of diamonds radiate outwards in a sunburst pattern, a diamond at the end of each quillon is surrounded with eight smaller diamonds, the reverse of the cross-guard is gilt embossed with leaves and a gilt flower is embossed on the tip of each quillon to correspond with the diamond 'flower' on the other side, the blade is very curved, of Damascus steel, with no grooves and is flat-backed, the scabbard is wood covered with black hide stitched together with wire and there is a long top locket with indentations for the langets of the hilt and a nearly full-length slit at the back to permit sheathing and withdrawal of the blade, and made in one piece with it is an additional locket bearing a ring at the back edge and a mid-locket, very similar to the supplementary one is attached to the back edge, a long chape is fitted with an ornamental shoe and all three mounts are decorated with leaves, lyres and horns, two 1827 pattern sword-knots are attached to the top and mid-lockets. One small diamond missing, otherwise very fine.

Ottoman Empire, mid 19th century, yataghan sword with finely forged blade of twisted steel strips in a pattern known as 'Turkish Ribbon', length of blade 53.5cm, very richly decorated with gold koftgari work and inscriptions in Arabic letters on both faces, with silver bolsters and grip strap, set with coral stones, gilded silver grips, scabbard covered fabric (later) and mounted with large, very finely chased silver locket and chape with a fish head at the tip, total length including scabbard 71cm. Traces of hammering in the blade centre and some nicks to flat back edge, otherwise very fine and a very impressive Yataghan sword.

Ottoman Empire, mid 19th century, yataghan sword (58cm), mid 19th century, with well forged 58cm blade with impressed maker's mark, fine bone grip with flared ears and around the centre and overlaying onto the blade for a distance of 9cm is an elaborately carved, raised silver decoration, with a very finely chased, heavy silver scabbard, total length including scabbard 81cm. Grips with a few age cracks and good age patina, one solder repair around the diameter of the scabbard, otherwise very fine.

WWI trench art, a rifle cartridge, empty of powder and with a removable bullet, on one side of the shell casing is affixed clovers and scroll (?) at top, then vertically down is an exploding bomb, a naval anchor, and crossed cannons, and then an oak spray on a plaque which is inscribed, 'Campagne/1914-1915', the headstamp impressed on the base of the cartridge is, 'S/1/11/ (and engraved) 3'; also a casting of a crucifix (2.5x4.5cm) in blackened bronze, with suspension loop, features a skull below Christ's feet and on the reverse is the word 'MISSION' on the cross bar and at the left side is a hammer and at the other side a pair of pincers, above on the vertical beam is a crown of thorns and below is a ladder, spear, nails, a rooster atop a pole (symbolising Christ facing into the sins and dangers of the world). Fine; very good. (2)
