Britannica Australia Awards Medal,1968, in 9ct gold (63mm; 135g), designed by SLD (Stuart Devlin), produced by K.G. Luke, obverse Encyclopedia Britannica symbol and its foundation year of 1768, reverse, map of Australia with ocean around and in a raised, nearly oval plinth across the centre is inscribed, '1968/P.J.Sculthorpe/Arts'. Royal Children's Hospital Brisbane, a tribute medal, cased, gilt and 60mm (100 g), specially struck to commemorate the Paediatric Healthcare Heritage, a medal for Paediatrics, obv. Amorial Bearings of the Royal Childrens Hospital Brisbane, with Hospital motto 'Healing, Teaching, Caring', rev. portrays the standing figure of Asklepios, (the Greek God of Curative Medicine) and his son Telesphorus, the image reflects the wandering healer with staff entwined with Asklepian serpent a metaphor for curative healthcare, Telesphorus portrays Convalescence and Rehabilitation, the legend around loosely translates 'May the Science and art of paediatrics be developed that the lives of children be enriched', the medal was designed by Emeritus Professor John Pearn AO as a gift of the Pearn family, made in 2014 as a tribute to those in this professional area. Uncirculated, one of only 200 produced and the only example available to collectors, lot comes with descriptive certificate.
