Macedon, Kingdom of, Philip III, (323-316 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.862 grams), Aradus mint, issued c.323-316 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, **SER* monogram in circle over bunch of grapes all to left, to right **FILIPPOU*, below **[B]ASILEWS*, all within dotted border, H on side in exergue, (cf.S.6749, Price P156, BMC P156a-f, M.P64). Very fine.

Macedonian shield, at centre of which is a bust of Artemis Tauropolos to right with bow and quiver at her shoulder, rev. **MAKEDONWN PRWTHS* in two lines, club between, HP monogram above, ANK monogram below, all within oak wreath, to left of which a thunderbolt, (S.1386, AMNG 165 [p.55 4 only noted], Hunter 3 [p.179], Mion. Vol.I, No.58 [p.456]). Good very fine and a very rare variety.

Macedonian shield, at centre of which is a bust of Artemis Tauropolos to right with bow and quiver at her shoulder, rev. **MAKEDONWN PRWTHS* in two lines, club between monograms above and below, all within oak wreath, to left of which a thunderbolt, (S.1386, AMNG 176 [p.57], BMC 7 [p.8], SNG Manchester 749, Hunter 3, McClean 3708, SNG Cop. 1314, SNG Ash. 3297). Well centred, very fine or better and scarce in this condition.

Dionysos naked standing to left, holding grapeslion and two narthex wands, to right **DIONUSIOU*, to left **SWTHROS, below **MARWNITWN, PLOU* monogram to left, **Q* to right with cental dot, (cf.S.1635, cf.Schonert-Geiss 1099-1107 [obv. 38 rev. -], cf.ACNAC Dewing 1295 [same obverse die], cf. BMC 59). Good metal, light scratches in obverse field, otherwise extremely fine and rare.

Very fine with good facial and hand detail, very scarce.

Good metal, well centred, nearly very fine.

High relief, of fine style, Good very fine/very fine and rare.

Athena enthroned to left, supporting Nike, to inner left a cult statue, to far left crescent, in exergue a **WX* monogram, to right **BASILEWS to left **LUSIMAXOU*, (cf.S.6814, Thompson 220 [illustrated Plate 21 [same dies], Arnold-Biuchi 36 [dies of obv.8, rev.35, dies illustrated as 34a, Pl.3 [error on plates], SNG Fitz. 1850 [same dies]). Well centred and with a very high relief, minor wear on the horn, with a fine eye, good very fine and very rare, the die combination known by one museum example (Cambridge).

Bright, slightly porous surface, otherwise nearly very fine and rare.
