Sicily, Syracuse, (c.475 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.41 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **SUPAKOSIO N around to right, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, hair waved and turned up behind under diadem of beads, four dolphins around, (cf.S.913, Boehringer 252E (obv.114/rev.173 same dies). Attractive evenly toned nearly very fine and a rare combination of dies.

Sicily, Syracuse, Agathocles, (317-289 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.082 grams), obv. head of Artemis-Arethusa to left, surrounded by three dolphins, with dotted border, **FI below, rev. galloping quadriga driven left by charioteer holding goad, above trisceles, in exergue **SURAKOSIWN over AN monogram, (cf.S.97153; BMC 246, SNG ANS 641 [probably the same dies]). Uneven flan with large piece of extra silver attached, some original mint bloom, weak in places, otherwise extremely fine and very scarce.

Phoenicia, Byblos, king `Uzzib`l (Azbaal), (365-350 B.C.), silver dishekel or seqel, (13.208 grams), obv. war galley travelling to left with lion's head prow and three hoplites with round shields, hippocamp to left below, Phoenician OZ above tail, rev. bull kneeling left attacked by lion on top of it, almost a full Phoenician legend above [Azbaal melek Gebal], (S.6012; cf.BMC 4; cf.Traite II, 871, Pl.117, 21-2; cf.ACNAC Dewing 2662; cf.Rouvier 641; cf.Betylon 14 [p.118]; Leu Num. 72, May 1998 lot 312 same dies [realised 2530 SFr.]). Roman School, 16th century, Alessandro Cesati (active 1538-1564), Dido, Queen of Carthage, North Africa, bronze medal 43mm, obv. Queen Dido bust to right, legend in Greek **DIDW BASILISSA*, rev. view of Carthage, with galleys in harbour before it, to left trace of legend **KARCHDWN*, (Kress Collection No.368 [p.69]). All known specimens appear to be cast as is this example, original was die struck, nearly extremely fine and very rare.
