The Halloran School Medal, 1826 awarded to J(oshua) F(rey) Josephson, an engraved silver medal by Samuel Clayton (70mm), (36.0 grams), obv. an allegorical scene of Minerva leading a schoolboy, the temple of Fame and a church in the background, legend around ARDUA PRIMA VIA EST SED FIT LABOR IPSE VOLUPTAS (At first the way is hard but labour itself becomes a pleasure) and signed 'S.Clayton Delt. et Sculpt.' rev. legend in eleven lines, INGENUO,/ MAGNAEQUE SPEI ADOLESCENTI/ J.F. Josephson/ PROPTER INSIGNES IN ARTIBUS/ PROGRESSUS SIGNUM HOC/ HONORARIUM/ DEDERUNT PRAESES,/ et Curatores/ Gymnasu Australasialici/ A.D. 1826./ AEt 11/ (upright young man of great future J.F. Josephson, on account of his distinguish progress on his studies... 1826 age 11). Very fine and very rare, one of the earliest of Australian medals extant and executed by the finest silversmith in the colony at the time.

Cowles Commercial Academy, Hobart Town, The Reward of Merit, 1845, in silver (47mm) (18.7 grams), English hallmarks with letters W.R., plain silver disc engraved both sides and made with a ring support attached to the top, obv. inscribed around 'Cowles Commercial Academy Hobart Town' with engraved globe on stand surmounted by a callipers, rev. 'The Reward of Merit, Hubert Jerome Kean, Dec. 1845', with engraved quill, and a book with 'Hear Read Mark Learn'. Very fine and extremely rare.

Tasmanian Poultry Society, 1859, hand engraved in silver (66mm) in two convex silver discs (51mm) joined by a plain surround ring as a hollow medallion, an intricately worked snake surrounds the whole piece with a fixed ring through the snake's mouth at the top to which is attached a bar suspension for a ribbon for wearing. Reverse inscribed 'Presented by Mr T.Wimbush / to the / Tasmanian Poultry Society / for Competition / and awarded to / Mr John Howe / for the best pen of / Game Fowls / July 1859'. This finely engraved and decorated medal is not hallmarked. Nearly extremely fine and probably unique.
