Lot 4857 Sale 58 Private Bank Issues

Promissory Note of G.Blaxcell, handwritten, Sydney, July 13th 1812, two hundred and fifty pounds, payable to Captain Joseph James on or before 24th September 1812. Accompanied by a printed form of a notice of protest printed by George Howe, Sydney 1813, signed by Ellis Bent, Judge Advocate of the Territory of New South Wales showing that Blaxcell had not paid by 16th August 1813. Stained on right hand side, good fine and extremely rare.

Lot 4858 Sale 58 Private Bank Issues

Bank of Australia, share certificate for one hundred pounds printed on vellum, issued to James Piggott, 1st July 1826, No. 933 printed by S. Clayton, signed by J. (John) Blaxland, the manager (cashier) was William Henry Mackenzie who also signs this certificate. Transferred on the back to George Rutherford 21st September 1831. One of the earliest available Australian share certificates. Nearly very fine and very rare.

Phelps. Received on the back by A.K. McKenzie on the 4th March 1824. Only the second example of this share certificate type ever offered. Stained in places, otherwise good very fine and very rare.

The Sydney Deposit Bank, Sydney, ten pounds, dated 17 Dec (uncertain reading) 1892?, (18 printed), numbered G 0281, uncertain reading of signatures, on paper, unwatermarked (?), imprint of 'Sands McDougall Limited', vignette in centre as arms with settler and aborigine above motto 'I Take but I Surrender', ornamental circular tablets with 10 in top and lower right corners, and £ TEN in tablet lower left, all within rectangular ornate border, green and red on white/green and red on white, (Vort-Ronald, comments on bank and type p.218-219, Tomlinson type illustrated [proof] [p.94-5]). Many folds and creases, rough edges with corner missing, with rust marks from pins, various pinholes and crease holes, otherwise good-very good and extremely rare for this denomination.
