Byzantine pottery oil lamp, c.600-700 A.D., mould made of orange clay with oval body (88mm long, 72mm wide), with short tapering nozzle and short pointed handle, central fill hole with raised edge that extends forward to encompass the wick hole and in the space between the two is a simplified low relief long cross, sides decorated and on the base is an 8-pointed star design. Soot stains around the wick hole and extending back to fill hole, minor lime encrustation on front lower surface, very fine.
