Australian Related, Norddeutsher Lloyd (Shipping Company)m Circular Note for ten pounds, issued in SYDNEY on 6th July 1914, to a Mis Barbara Henry, No. B 10991. The word 'Sydney' has been handwritted above the norml 'London' printed city of issue. The note was cashed at Mozambique on the 27th August 1914 and the details recorded on the back of the note. See further details above. Nearly extremely fine and extremely rare, especially issued in Sydney.

Lot 2953 Sale 70 War Related Issues

Australian Related, Norddeutsher Lloyd (Shipping Company), Circular Note for Five Pounds, issued in SYDNEY on 6th July 1914, to a Miss Barbara Henry, No. A 01763. The word 'Sydney' has been handwritted above the normal 'London' printed city of issue. The note was cashed at sea on the 29th July 1914 and the details recorded and filled in on the back of the note which states - 'Deutsche Bank (Berlin)/ London Agency/ £5.00 London. At Sight Pay to the Order of ........... ' in five lines. And below 'FIVE POUNDS/ value received at Sea/ this 29th day of July 1914/ signature of Barbara Henry' in four lines. The words 'LOHMANN & CO.' are stamped onthe front lower border (possibly the local Sydney shipping agent that issued the note). Printed by Giesecke & Devrient - Leipzig and Berlin. Good very fine and very rare, especially issued in Sydney.

Lot 2954 Sale 70 War Related Issues

World War I, War Loan leaflet, this and similar official recruiting 'loan' leaflets were dropped by members of the Australian Flying Corps over Melbourne and Adelaide in 1917. The leaflet depicts a bi-plane with the words 'WAR LOAN' on the top wing and the text 'The Boys who trained in Melbourne are making history in the air. Help them by Buying War Bonds.' below in five lines in a frame and 'H.J. Green, Acting Govt Print., Melb.' At base, black print on white paper (100 x 151mm), an extremely rare item of early Australian military aviation, only a few known. Very fine.

Commonwealth of Australia, War Savings Certificates, official tin storage box, as used by post offices and banks? to store war savings certificates, the box measures 205 x 105 mm and 38mm in depth, painted black on the outside and cream on the inside, with the word's 'WAR SAVINGS CERTIFICATES' painted in white on the front edge of the tin. A rare item of war savings certificates related memorabilia. Very fine.
