Scotland, Aberdeen, Minute of Agreement dated 6 October 1846, a large, single paper document between John Blaikie, Advocate in Aberdeen as factor for and trustee for John Menzies of Pitfodels and Alexander Mathieson, cropper at Drumforskie, Aberdeen for lease of about ten acres on the hill at Drumforskie, signed by Alexander Mathieson, William Rae (clerk to law firm of John Blaikie & Smith) and witness, James Malcolm (writer), of interest is the use of interesting phrasing at that time for the timetable of paying rent, namely, 'payable at two terms in the year Whitsunday after sowing and Martinmas after reaping' (both times of the year relating to religious festivals); also Australia, NSW, Deed of Appointment dated 19 September 1900 of John Norman Starkey as trustee of the Will of John Thomas Starkey in lieu of Richard John Horner Jenkins, signed by all interested parties with witness signatures, and with affixed duty stamps. The first with a few small tears on folds and at edges and small loss of paper at edge and some light foxing, otherwise very good and interesting document, the second with heavy foxing on outside centre section, otherwise fine. Great Britain, Islington, Indenture of Lease dated 21 October 1854, a large 2-page vellum document between William City of 33 Penton Place, Pentonville in County of Middlesex, gentleman and Henry Fisher of Newington Causeway in County of Surrey for a Shop Messuage and premises at 20 Hedge Row, Islington, gentleman, signed under seal by Wm City and with witness signature and affixed duty stamps. In excellent condition with minimal toning, good very fine.

Great Britain, Middlesex, Indenture of Release and Disclaimer dated 21 November 1867, a large 2-page vellum document in respect of an annuity of £2,000 and indemnity in respect of an annuity of £60 respectively bequeathed by the Will of Sir J.W.Gordon Bart deceased and Release in respect of his real and personal estate, from Miss Gordon and Sir H.P.Gordon Bart to W.T.Longbourne Esq, signed under seal by H.P.Gordon and Julia E.Gordon and with witness signatures and affixed duty stamps. Some age toning on outside, otherwise very fine.

Both with ageing and foxing, very good. (2)

Great Britain, Kent, Indenture of Mortgage dated 29 October 1894, for lease and loan of money, a large vellum document marked at top inside first title letter, Ford & Turner, Law Stationers, 77, Coleman St, London, E.C., a 99 year lease for two parcels of land on Elm Grove, Kingston on Thames and buildings thereon between Mrs Elizabeth Hughes of Lyndhurst Rd, Peckham, County of Kent, widow and Mrs Elizabeth Ellen Bennett of Cranleigh, Southborough Park, Surrey, wife of Sidney Baxter Bennett, gentleman, signed under seal by Elizabeth Hughes and with witness signature and affixed duty stamp, also with duty stamped endorsement dated 26 December 1896 for conveyance of three Victoria cottages at 1, 2 and 3 Golden Lion Lane within the above indenture to William Coton. A few small areas of foxing, otherwise good very fine.

With folds and a few small stains on reverse but in excellent condition for its age, good very fine and very rare.

Van Diemen's Land, handwritten Bill of Exchange for twenty pounds one shilling due 6 augt, issued at Hobart Town 3rd May 1837, with promise to pay three months after date at the Derwent Bank to order of Messrs G & R Sutherland, signed by Geo Meredith, the signature crossed for cancellation after payment on 5-8-37, with various notations and signatures on back, small sticker of paper at top left corner applied over a small hole and reads, 'Augt 5/No Effects/and initials'. Irregular edges at bottom and right edge, small spike hole in centre, otherwise fine.

New Zealand, Colonial, Otago Commissioner of Crown Lands Deed Grant No.9983 to Superintendent of the Province of Otago and his successors to a parcel of land for the purpose of public utility to the Town of Oamaru, signed by Sir George Ferguson Bowen K.G.C.M.G., Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Colony of New Zealand at Wellington and dated second day of July 1869, attached is a large paper impression of the original first type seal of New Zealand, and on one side are the registration details by the Secretary for Crown Lands. Small loss of paper at the top edge of one fold and on one bottom corner, otherwise good fine.

The first with tears on the folds and some loss of paper at edges, all items with folds, otherwise overall fine - extremely fine, the last two in excellent condition. (4)

Great Britain, typed letter from British Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, dated 20th December 1920, to T.J.Bennett Esq, C.I.E., M.P. advising him of the award of a Knighthood, on letterhead of 10 Downing Street, Whitehall, signed personally; a Home Office typed letter from H.R.Boyd a civil service member of the Home Office, dated 26th January 1921, to Thomas J.Bennett Esq, C.I.E., M.P., advising of arrangements for having the Knighthood conferred at the hands of the King, signed personally; a handwritten letter signed personally by British Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, dated 23.XII.23, to Sir Thomas (Bennett CIE, MP), on letterhead of 10 Downing Street, Whitehall, the letter thanks Sir Thomas for his support even though the election in November 1923 was lost, in the Prime Minister's envelope hand addressed to Sir T.J.Bennett C.I.E. and postmarked Dec 27 1923; various European and Middle Eastern postcards (10), c1907, addressed to Miss Brooke -Jones; handwritten notes in an OHMS India Office envelope addressed to T.J.Bennett; three watercolour paintings (25x17.5cmm [2], and 23x15.2cm), featuring historic buildings in English counties, in an envelope printed for The Society for Nautical Research at Greenwich, and with handwritten note on front to 'Lady Bennett with the compliments of Sir Charles Ollivant'; Commonwealth Parliamentary Association lapel badge in enamel and nickel, by Spink, London. The envelopes torn and the watercolours with some foxing, otherwise very good - extremely fine. (19)
