Struck with normal die rotation (en medaille) with replacement ring suspension, the gilding probably later, nearly very fine and rare.

New South Wales Prize Exhibitors medal, 1862 (London), in gold (76mm) struck in nearly pure gold (23.5ct) (12oz / 365gm) by W.Kullrich, awarded as a special prize by the New South Wales Government for the best spun yarn from NSW grown wool to Joseph Craven of Dole Mill, Thornton, Yorkshire. Inscribed on edge `Joseph Craven. Fabric'. Probably the largest Australian Award medal in gold. In original case, nearly FDC and excessively rare.

Ballaarat Cricket Club, 1862, handcrafted medal in silver (78mm star shape), a buckled garter imposed on a six pointed star with an early fire engine in high relief being the centre piece, a fireman's helmet and fire fighting implements in the triangular points of the star which is framed with a fine ornamental border, with loop mount and suspension bar, engraved on obverse 'We Strive to Save', and on reverse 'Presented / to / S.Dempster / by the / Ballaarat Cricket Club / as / Winner / of the / Firemen's Race / 26 Decr 1862'. An interesting and important item of Australiana. Extremely fine and very rare.
