Melbourne Bid for the 1956 Games, official Invitation Book to International Olympic Committee members, dated February 1948, over 80pp., bound in white vellum with the Coat of Arms of the City of Melbourne in silver and enamel on the front cover. The first few pages include an invitation from the Organising Committee and letters, with seals, from the Governor of Victoria, Premier of Victoria and Lord Mayor of Melbourne. Illustrated with views of Melbourne and its environs, plus plan of proposed sites, sketches of Olympic arena (2) and swimming pool. Less than one hundred copies made. With tear to page III, otherwise extremely fine and extremely rare.
