Peek and Campbell - Sydney Tea Stores, Sydney penny, 1852 (A.427A Heyde 247/2) five lines of legend on obverse, reverse as A.427. One of the rarest tokens by J.C. Thornthwaite. Even brown tone and very fine for this, the finest known, excessively rare believed only one other known. The other known example was sold in our sale 29 (lot 2806) and realised $13,100. The present example was only recently discovered in England so its appearance at auction now offers collectors a unique opportunity to acquire this important token. The other example is held in the Moran Collection in Sydney.
