Sterling silver claret jug, used as a racing presentation cup, 1839, by Edward, Edward Junior, John & William Barnard, (tot wt 1.12kg), heavily decorated with ornate leaf and floral displays, horse finial on hinged lid, and hallmark underneath rim, separately cast handle and leaf work around rim, base is separately cast, etched on the jug are 'Her Majesty's Cup for 1839', underneath to the right are barely visible words '12 June 1839', the part that has been erased is the name of the winner. Previous engraving removed, otherwise extremely fine and of heavy gauge silver.
