SICILY, Leontinoi, (476-466 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.716 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **LEONTINON* completely around, a head of a lion to right, four barley corns around, (S.825, SNG ANS 205 [same dies], Randazzo Hoard No.82 [Same Dies]). Attractive even grey tone, off centred on the obverse, otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare.

The Randazzo Hoard (1980), published as ANS Num. Studies No.18 contained 14 tetradrachms of Leontinoi, 136 coins of Messana, 308 coins of Syracuse and 5 coins of Naxos, these numbers probably reflecting the relative rarity of tetradrachms as issues from these various contemporary Sicilian city state.
