New Zealand. Group of Seven. Indian General Service Medal 1908 - one bar - Waziristan 1919-21; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45; New Zealand War Service Medal; New Zealand Long and Efficient Service Medal. Lieut/Major S.C.V.W. Sugden, New Zealand Staff Corps. First and last medals only named, impressed and mounted for wear. Others unnamed. Rare. Good very fine.
Samuel Charles Vivian White Sugden was born in February 1898. He entered the Royal Military College Duntroon on 16 February 1916, graduating on 10 December 1919. Posted to India on graduation he served until the reduction in the New Zealand Defence establishment prompted his transfer to the Reserve on 11 December 1921. Awarded the Long and Efficient Service Medal on 20 May 1929, vide General Order 249/29. He served in the Middle East in the 2NZEF and retired as a Major on 28 June 1946. His brother Arthur Harris Linsell Sugden also attended RMC Duntroon from 20 February 1920 until withdrawal on 14 December 1921 and subsequently served in the 2nd A.I.F. (Lieut.Col.,M.I.D.)
