Ceylon, (Sri Lanka), Anonymous issue, Kahavanu, gold stater, 10th century A.D., (4.430 grams), Codrington type II fine style, 'adahanda and lotus' series, type I-II (M.825a, cf.Cod. 9.II.3, p.56, Pl.III, 49). Of fine style, nearly extremely fine and very rare.
Ex. T.V. Holland Collection and A.H. Baldwin's London, c.1960's, (Å“7.10.0) with ticket. The style of this piece is much earlier than the other example in this sale, although not exactly the same as the illustrated Codingtron or Mitchiner examples, it clearly is earlier and of much finer workmanship.
