Description
Ravel, Oscar., Descriptive Catalogue of the Collection of Tarentine Coins formed by M.P. Vlasto, Spink, London, 1947, 196 + xi pps., 53 plates. Very fine, folio size, cloth bound with gilt leather spine panel and very rare.
This is the most important work that describes with superb photographs the collection of coins from Tarentum that the owner spent most of his life acquiring. It is the largest collection of this type ever formed with the collection as the reference for description of Tarentine coins. The collection (now dispersed) collected by dies contains 1881 coins. This the original edition is much superior to the smaller reprint made many years. This first printing is essential to correctly identify dies for coins of this city. This book is indispensible to the collector of this series.
