Description

Augustus as Octavian, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), silver denarius, uncertain Italian mint (probably Brundisium, possibly Rome), issued 29-27 B.C. (3.83 grams), obv. Octavian with terminal laureated bust to right with thunderbolt behind all within linear circle, rev. [I]MP to left across, CAESAR to right across, separating Octavian in togate seated half left on curule chair, holding Victory or Victoriola, (S.-, RIC 270, C.116, BMC 637). Minor surface pin pricks on the reverse, slightly off centred, otherwise good fine and rare.
