Description

Attica, Athens, (166-57 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.538 grams), issued 145-144 B.C., (Thompson date) but probably 113-2 B.C. (revised chronology), obv. head of Athena Parthenos to right wearing triple-crested Athenian helmet, ornamented with Pegasus, rev. owl standing to right, head facing, in erect posture, on prostrate amphora, Triptolemos to right, B? on amphora, legend across **A QE, to left EUM AREI DHS, ALK [I]DAM, DIO*, uncertain below, all within wreath, (cf.S.2555, Thompson 671D same dies, example in Delos hoard). Nearly very fine and rare.
