Sydney, N.S.W., presentation medal, 1853, hand engraved in silver (66mm), two convex silver discs (55mm) joined as a hollow medallion with rope surround, at top an anchor and bowsprit crossed, entwined with rope, loop mount atop anchor, obv. engraved with the Australian Coat of Arms, rev. inscribed 'Presented / together with a Purse of 35 Sovereigns / To / Charles H. Plummer, Seaman / by a number of the Inhabitants of Sydney / New South Wales / to mark their sense of his noble and / intrepid conduct on the occasion of / the wreck of the Monumental City / American Steamer, at Malagoutta / Bay near Cape Howe on the / 15 May 1853 / by which / the lives of 54 Persons were saved'. Nearly extremely fine and beautifully engraved, probably unique.
