Lieut Bryan Craven Meagher D Coy 2/2o Inf Bn. Enl 20Jun1940 Discharged 29Nov1945. The 2/20 Bn sailed from Sydney on 4Feb1941 on board the Queen Mary and arrived at Singapore Naval Dock on 17/18Feb1941. 2/20 Bn went to Mersing in Malaya where they first encountered the Japanese, they retreated down through Malaya and took part in the defence of Singapore. Lt Meagher was captured with most members of the 8th Division after the fall of Singapore on 15Feb1942. He became a P.O.W. at Changi. Lt Meagher was detailed to 'E Force' and embarked on the steamer 'De Klerk' on 28Mar1943 for Borneo. 2/20 Bn had six officers and fifty three O.R'S in the full compliment of five hundred in 'E Force'. All 2/20 Bn officers in 'E Force' survived, only three of the O.R's survived. Casualty List 3799 19Sep1945. Lt Meagher was in Kuching Prisoner of War Camp. most of the O.R's died on the Sandakan death march.
