Cpl H.B.Reid 2/29 Bn A.I.F. served from 31Jul1940 to 8Aug1946. M.M. L.G. 6Mar1947: 'Corporal Reid moved through the enemy occupied ground from Bukit Timah to Holland Road, Malaya, with a Lieutenant and four men on the night of 11th February 1942, contacted 22nd Brigade Headquarters, and on returning to the battalion after delivering a message a light was seen which he and the Lieutenant went forward to inspect. The Lieutenant was rushed by five or six enemy and shot dead but Corporal Reid stood his groung and shot all but one of the enemy who ran away. He was then attacked by a large enemy party and retired after killing three of them. Corporal Reid's leadership and devotion to duty enable him to subsequently bring back the patrol and valuable information to the British lines despite heavy machine-gun and mortar fire'. When the Japanese took Singapore he became a prisoner at the infamous Changi Prisoner of War Camp. A rare award for the defence of Singapore. Together with Personal Equipment card, Demobilization Procedure Book, photograph, Discharge Certificate, newspaper clippings, postcard, hat and collar badges.
