Syria, Kingdom of, Antiochus II, (261-246 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.76 grams), Series I, Seleucia on Tigris mint, issued 261-256 B.C., obv. diademed head of Antiochus I to right, dotted border, rev. Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow and bow, on right, **BASILEWS and to left **ANTIOXOU, to left and right monograms, (cf.S.6886, Newell ESM 178, BMC 14, Hunter 21). Old dark tone on obverse, good fine/fine, scarce.

Ex. E.T. Newell Collection, sold Parke Bernet auction, New York, October 17, 1968 (lot 202) and then the Abramowitz Family collection, Superior Coin and Stamp auction. December 8, 1993 (lot 506). Newell notes a total of 14 tetradrachms of this type in public and private collections.
