Syria, Kingdom of, Antiochus I, (280-261 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.98 grams), Series III, Group C, Seleucia on Tigris mint, issued 264-263 B.C., obv. diademed head of Antiochus I to right, dotted border, rev. Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow and bow, on right, **BASILEOS* and to left **ANTIOXOU* to left and right monograms, (cf.S.6866, Newell ESM 166). Old dark tone, slightly off centre on obverse, otherwise very fine, scarce.

Ex. E.T. Newell Collection, Parke Bernet October 17, 1968 (lot 202), and Abramowitz Collection Superior, Stamp and Coin auction, December 8, 1993 (lot 506 part). Newell notes a total of 10 tetradrachms types in public and private collections of this group issued in these years.
