ALLEN, William, Jamberoo penny, 1855 (A.6, H.6 [R8]). Uneven brown tone with corrosion on the reverse, otherwiase good fine/nearly very fine and very rare, one of the classic tokens of the entire series by J.C. Thornthwaite.

Heyde relates 'Of these [token coins] pieces that actually went into circulation Allen is the rarest 'issuer'. The real issuer was the Toll Gate Keeper at Annandale. Allen having refused to accept the consignment from Thornthwaite the maker'.
