Syria, Kingdom of, Seleucus I, (312-280 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.03 grams), uncertain Cappadocia and Norther Syrian mint (Newell mint C), c.281-280 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, Nike in outstretched hand, **SI* to left to right **SELEUKOU*, in exergue **[BA]SILEWS, (cf.S.6830, Newell WSM 1346, [p.240, pl.LII, 11). Good very fine, very rare.
Newell knew of only one example of this type and for all varieties of this mint for this ruler three examples.
