Macedon, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.93 grams), 'Amphipolis' mint, issued c.323-320 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, Macedonian helmet to left, **BASILEWS to left, to right **ALEXANDROU*. (cf.S.6713, Price 113, BMC 113 a-i, SNG Cop. 682, M.224, Newell Reattribution 42). Very fine/nearly very fine, scarce.
An unusual variety with **BASILEWS curved to left in the field of the reverse.
