Steinaecker's Horse was raised in June 1900 by Major F.Von Steinaecker, a former Prussian Army officer for operations in Zululand and on the Swaziland border of the Transvaal. The units operations moved further into the very wild country to the west of the Portuguese border, gradually extending their raids to the north and south for great distances, thereby denying the enemy the use of the eastern lowlands for rest and recuperation. The unit was one of the most complete and self supporting groups in the country. William Black Wilson, born Carlton, Victoria 15 December 1876; Enl. 09 November 1900 in Steinaecker's Horse; Died 07 February 1903 Komatipoort, South Africa.
